I am a graduate of Pawnee High School. I attended Oklahoma State University for one year before transfering to Oklahoma Baptist University where I received my B.A. in Secondary Education. Later, I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and received an M.Ed. in Secondary Guidance and Counseling.
I am certified by the Oklahoma State Department of Education in several areas of secondary education including US History, World History, Government, Democracy and Oklahoma History as well as Secondary Counselor. I have 34 years of experience in public education, serving as a teacher, coach and counselor during that time.
I am the part time School Counselor for Carney Public Schools. I started working here in August 2017. I will be at the high school office all day each Wednesday during the school year.
I served as high school counselor at McLoud High School for the past 17 years before retiring in May of 2017. Although I was the 11th and 12th grade counselor, I have worked with all grades in high school. Prior to becoming the high school counselor, I served as the middle school counselor for 7 years so I also have experience working with students in the lower grades. I am excited to be here and look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff of Carney Public Schools.
My wife Traci and I just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this past June. We have four adult children. Jill makes her home in Oklahoma City, Scott and his wife Annie live in Edmond, Aaron lives in Moore and Matt lives in McLoud. We have two dogs who keep things interesting around the Gokey house. Russell and Kembah are pictured below.
